CLEVELAND—Plans are set for the 14th annual EastWest Eye Conference to be held here Oct. 7–10. For the first time, the exhibit hall will be in the historic Public Hall Auditorium of the Cleveland Convention Center with nearly 100 vendors participating. The conference is sponsored by the Ohio Optometric Association (OOA) with all profits from the Conference going toward advancing the profession of optometry, according to organizers.
Over 200 hours of continuing education for optometrists, as well as education for opticians and allied eye professionals have been scheduled, the organization said. Doctor tracks include anterior segment, posterior segment, glaucoma, low vision, neuro-optometric rehabilitation, contact lens, pediatrics and sports vision.
In conjunction with the conference, the OOA will have their annual meeting on Saturday, Oct. 9. According to the association, members will “learn what has been accomplished in the past year and plans for the future affecting the profession of optometry, find out about the critical issues currently facing optometry and celebrate the accomplishments of the past year.”
At the same meeting, the OAA election of officers is to take place. This year’s nominees include:
President: Heath Gilbert, OD, current President-Elect
President Elect: Don Faimon,OD, current Secretary-Treasurer
Secretary-Treasurer: Brenda Montecalvo, OD, current Trustee
Candidates for OOA Trustee are: Alex Andrich, OD, Todd Clark, OD, Jason Miller, OD, and Peter Mogyordy, OD.
Also on Saturday, OOA president Gil Pierce, OD, will be honored at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Center during the OOA Banquet. Additionally, the evening features the presentation of the Warren G. and Ruth P. Morris Optometrist of the Year award, the Jack Keith Young Optometrist of the Year award, the Outstanding Senior Student award and the Key Optometrist of the Year, as well as the installation of the OOA Board and Zone Governors and the passing of the President's gavel by OOA Past Presidents. The evening will be emceed by Karla Zadnik, OD.
The Exhibit Hall Reception will take place Thursday night, Oct. 7, and the Friday Night Party—which will include entertainment by Bad Habits, “The Eye Docs of Rock”—is to take place at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Oct. 8. This year’s registration fee includes access to these and all Exhibit Hall activities and sponsored events along with breakfasts sponsored by Marco and Vistakon, lunches sponsored by Bausch + Lomb, CooperVision and CIBA and entrance to the EastWest Bookstore.
Conference attendees are also invited to participate in the Poster Session—the purpose of which is to share challenging differential diagnoses and complex management options with professional colleagues. The theme for this year is "Look In, Look Out, Look All About,” and was chosen to emphasize the value of examining the human eye and visual system by using a wide variety of clinical tests and procedures, the organization said. Poster presenters will receive complimentary registration and two hours of CE.

Is this always scheduled on top of Vision Expo West? That's gotta hurt attendance on both ends . . .
