LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The National Association of Vision Care Plans (NAVCP) will host its first joint event with The National Association of Specialty Health Organizations (NASHO) since the two organizations merged one year ago. Combining NAVCP’s Annual Conference with NASHO’s Annual Leadership Summit, the 2012 Specialty Health Summit will be held in New Orleans April 30 to May 2 at the historic Roosevelt New Orleans: A Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
NAVCP and NASHO’s origins and growth followed parallel paths, with both marking 10 years of advocacy in 2012. This year’s Summit, in keeping with that theme, will focus on health care policy and its impact to all of specialty health, including the vision industry. The 2012 Summit maintains a focus on vision care by offering a full day of sessions that address issues specific to the industry.
“Hosting one comprehensive Specialty Health Summit epitomizes the spirit of our 2011 merger,” Julian Roberts, executive director of NAVCP/NASHO told VMail (see NAVCP Merges with NASHO for Support in Day-to-Day Operations, Lobbying). “Drawing from a larger pool of resources, the Summit—much like our advocacy efforts—grows in depth and stature and offers insight to benefit the specialty health industry both at-large and at a specialty-specific level. The Summit includes several speaker presentations focused exclusively on vision that NAVCP members have come to expect at their previous annual events.”
Keynote speakers and featured presenters include: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (invited); Dr. Bob Graboyes, senior fellow for health and economics, National Federation of Independent Business; Carol Steckel, director, Center for Health Care Innovation and Technology, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals; Ed Greene, CEO, The Vision Council; and Jobson Optical Group’s Marge Axelrad, senior vice president, editorial director of Vision Monday.
