Opticianry is my second profession.

I spent over 30 years working primarily as an analytical chemist. Over the course of my career I analyzed cow manure, non-nutritive sweetners, industrial streams, human blood, drinking waters, municipal waste streams, and soils. Most of my work involved hemoglobin - the molecule in the red cells that transports oxygen to the tissues in the body and carries carbon dioxide back to the lungs. I retired in 2008.

My daughter, who is an optometrist, moved back to the Akron, OH, area in 2008 and opened her own office. My wife and I volunteered to do all we could to help her practice get started. I became a licensed optician in 2011. At present I divide my time between managing the business and working in the dispensary.
