Wanna catch your breath? Wanna let your brain chill? Read my blog! I was born in 1953 in Harvey, Ill. where my father was a special agent for the FBI. Hey! I am not making this up. After I was born, my father decided he would rather raise his family back in his old hometown, Montgomery, WV where he went to high school with my mother so that's where we went. He opened a small law practice and became a very notable state politician and public servant. The bridge into Montgomery is named the Earl M.Vickers Memorial Bridge. No, I was not named after the town but my father's mother's maiden name was Montgomery and I am named for a baby she lost whose name was Montgomery Vickers. I do think about that.
Grew up a pseudohippy nerd..slide rule on my belt. In the high school band...and later in rock bands and folkie groups including one called "Monty, Paul, and Mary". I am being serious.
College at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va where my father and my older brother went. Pre-med.
Pennsylvania College of Optometry 75-79. Back to WVa which had the best optometry laws in the nation and practicing in a small town practice ever since.
Asked Renee to marry me after losing a Super Bowl bet...again, true. Still with me, the fool. Married 1980. Two kids, Aaron (dentist now in med school in traing for maxillofacial surgery) and Amber (final year of dental school...where did I go wrong?). He is married to Ashley, a PharmD and on 09/09/09 my first grandbaby, Ella, was born! Amber getting married to a classmate and wonderful young man, James, in September.
